Friday's Letters!

Dear Lexie, You are the sweetest puppy ever and I love you dearly but please stop trying to eat the toilet paper and cotton balls that are in the bathroom trasth can.  They will make you very sick and I do not understand your obsession with eating weird things.

Dear ER, Please be kind to me this weekend.  I know I spend a lot of time with you, but this nurse is very tired and does not feel well.  Thanks ahead of time.

Dear hormones, I think you are actively trying to screw with my head.  I had a very vivid dream that I birthed a breach baby last night with no epidural, and no other medical staff around.  So thanks to you, I woke up feeling anxious and unrested.

Dear husband, Thank you for being my constant rock and for proof reading all of my grad school application essays and CV's :)

Happy Friday!

Monday Musings!

Well today is actually my Sunday and tomorrow is actually my Monday (ahhh the life of a nurse!)....but since the calendar says it's Monday, I'll just play along.  I had a nice relaxing day off work today.  I woke up with all intention of going to the trainer I've been seeing lately, but was not feeling 100% so I stayed home.  I finished up my application for graduate school today! Yay :)...huge stress relief there.  Now I have to wait unit May to hear back : /

Speaking of May, it feels like May here!! 81 degrees today.  Talk about a tease because it's supposed to be back in the 50's with low of 30's next week.  It did however give me the opportunity to wear the Wynnie Lilly top I got from the Rue La La Lilly sale!  See previous post....This is my first Wynnie top and I absolutely love the fit!  Highly recommend it for a cute Spring/Summer top.

After running a few errands, I came back home, picked my dog Lexie up, and went for a visit to my Mom's house.  Absolutely love going to visit my Mom.  It always puts me in a better mood.  And my Mom loves seeing Lexie and vice versa. My Mom calls Lexie her grand-dog and it's the cutest thing!  I guess she's trying to hint around about wanting grandchildren :)  Now I'm back at home, waiting on the hubby to get home from work and class, while smelling chicken fajitas that I have cooking in the crock pot.  After dinner tonight, I plan on watching episode two of the Bachelor...never gets old to me!  For right now I'm just going to snuggle up with my little Lexie Lou :)

Happy Monday!!

Greenway and Lilly time!

Today I went to one of my favorite spots to walk, run, and bike. It's called the Greenway. I met my brother over there and even brought little Lexie along. We walked for 4 miles and thankfully Lexie behaved herself. Trying to stay on track with exercising!

Speaking of staying on track, I veered a little from the monthly budget and decided to check out Lilly on Rue La La. I managed to find a few things at great prices for this spring/summer season.

Did anyone else have any luck yesterday on Rue La La?

Happy Tuesday everyone!

New Year, New Goals!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas season and New Years! With the holidays winding down I thought now would be a good time to make a list of goals for the new year.  To be held accountable, I thought I would share them on here!

1.  Blog at least twice a week.  It is hard for me to blog on days that I work because I work 12 hour days at the hospital, so I hope to be able to post at least twice a week on days that I am off work.

2.  Engage in vigorous exercise 3 times per week.  I have already started on this one.   One of the security guards at the hospital owns a gym near where I live and is a trainer, so I have been trying to go see him once a week and then I usually try and go to the gym I have a membership at for cardio throughout the rest of the week.  Hopefully I can keep this up.

3.  Get into Nurse Practitioner school.  My school application is completed and I won't hear anything until May.  Please say a prayer that if this is where God wants my career to head, that He will open the door for me.

4.  No more soda!....I am a huge sucker for Dr. Pepper...especially while I'm at work.  This one will be very hard for me.

5.  Have daily devotion time.  There are times when I know I should be giving more time to God.  It's very easy to get distractd by the many things in life, and I hope to devote more time to God this year.

6.  Stick to a budget! My husband and I have set a new budget.  With him starting graduate school,
and me hoping to start in the fall, I'm just going to have to frequently remind myself that the new Lilly dress will just have to wait.

I hope everyone has a great start to the New Year!

DIY Thursday!

So I'm stuck at home from work today because I have strep throat.  I seriously pick this illness up at least three times a year.  Since I'm stuck inside, I thought I would mix it up a little and give you guys a DIY post.  I actually did not pick this one up on Pinterest, but had heard about it from a friend at church and decided to look into it. So hold onto your seats, because this awesomely cheap DIY will save you tons of money each year, and it's relatively simple to put together.

DIY laundry detergent:

I got the "recipe" for this detergent from DIY natural on here.  Everything costs under $20!  Here's what you need (all parts can be found at your local grocery store-I shop at Kroger so that's where I picked up everything and the pricing listed was the price I paid.)

Arm and Hammer Super Washing Powder-3lb box- $3.29
Arm and Hammer baking soda-2 lb box (on the baking isle)-$1.89
Borax-4 lb box-$4.49
Fels-Naptha laundry soap bars-3 bars at $1.19 each
Oxy Clean powder-(I used the 1 lb. smaller container to save money)-$4.09
15L storage container-(I got mine from Target)-$2.00

First, you have to grate the Fels-Naptha laundry bars.  I used a simple hand held cheese grater to do this step.  This is the longest step and takes about 20 minutes to complete. Here's what it will looks like: (kind of looks like cheese-haha!)

After shaving the laundry bars, you simply mix all other ingredients togther.  Make sure to stir everything up well so that the laundry soap shavings are well and evenly mixed in.  Also if you prefer, I've heard of people adding Purex crystals into this detergent to add more fragrance.  For me, I use downy liquid fabric softener for every load of laundry, so it wasn't worth the extra money.  Hint: do this outside because the powdery substance will go into the air while mixing everything together and can get on your furniture and cause breathing problems-esp. if you have asthma.

I didn't take an after picture of everything mixed together, but it looks like a white powdery mixture.  This is supposed to work on regular and HE washers.  I have an older model top loader.  You only need to add 1-2 tablespoons of this per load (2 tablespoons for more heavily soiled clothing)  Tip: add a little water to the washing machine first, then add the detergent.   I tested the laundry detergent on some older clothes first to make sure it wouldn't fade or leave spots on the clothing.  I am so pleased with the results.  After I did the first load, I decided to wash my scrubs for work and I am pleased to say they didn't fade at all.  My clothes also smelled so clean.

Side note: Don't expect the water to bubble up like it would with other detergent.  Even though it doesn't bubble up, it still works!

I know that I usually spend $10 every other month or so on liquid detergent and this is supposed to last a year for a family of 5 and cost me $17.33 to make! Talk about an easy way to save $$$$$.  Let me know if you have any questions!

Day 3: Jamica trip recap!

I'm continuing with my recap of Day 3 of our trip to Jamaica from this summer.  Day 3 of our trip also happened to be our 2 year anniversary! We started our our day with our daily ritual of breakfast at Norma's On the Beach.  They had the best french toast and omlets, and if you know me, you know I am obsessed with breakfast foods.  haha.  After eating breakfast we headed back to our room and got ready for another beach day.

There was a jet ski shop literally right next door to our hotel, and since the guy that rents them out had ben harrasing us all week to rent one, we decided to take him up on the offer (once we talked the price down of course!); We rode jet skis for about an hour, then decided to head back in to eat lunch.  Since we were trying to save money, we ate some good old PB&J sandwiches in our room on the balcony.  After eating lunch we headed back out to the beach to relax for the rest of the afternoon.

Here we are in front of our hotel's sign on the beach.  Please excuse my paleness!

After more beach time we headed in to get ready for dinner.  We saved the restaurant which had the best reviews on the cliffside of Negril for our anniversary dinner.  It's called Ivan's on the Beach.  We dined outside under the stars.  While waiting on our food we were able to take a picture overlooking the beach.  Unfortunately it was already dark, so I couldn't get a good picture of the water.  This restaurant had gorgeous views and the food was delicious! We both got the jerk chicken pasta and some frozen cocktails.

Excuse my hair in this picture.  It was rather windy on top of the cliff.  That concludes Day 3 of our trip.  Happy Wednesday everyone!
